Understanding Hinges within WoodCAM

Modified on Wed, 1 May, 2024 at 1:24 PM

All hinge data is controlled within three tables in the WoodCAM database.

These are the HingesMatrix, HingeSeries and Hinges tables.

Understanding the HingeMatrix Table

Moving onto the HingeMatrix table now. This table is used to control the amount of hinges that are required on doors when not specified using a matrix style sizing chart.

Even though you can specify on each product how many hinges are required for the door, letting WoodCAM use the hinge matrix to get the quantity of hinges required decreases detailing times as detailers are no longer having to set hinge quantity's manually.

Understanding the HingeSeries Table

Firstly lets start with the HingeSeries table. This can be found by opening the WoodCAM Database > HingeSeries table.

The hinge series table serves as a master table that allows the user to customise hinge series. To save time from setting individual hinge types for different cabinet scenarios, WoodCAM makes use of a HingeSeries table to control all the different type of cabinet situations a hinge can be used.

The best way to think about the HingeSeries table is a master table that selects the hinges for each different hinge scenario.

You cannot just simply change a hinge name in the HingeSeries table and expect it to work, there must be a matching Hinge created in the Hinges table.

Understanding the Hinge Table

This brings us to the Hinges table. This can be found by opening the WoodCAM Database > Hinges table.

The Hinges table contains all the induvial hinge and plates data. This consists of drilling specs, prices, hardware order numbers, stock control and hinge matrix codes. All the data in this table is completely customisable to suit your preferences.

Updating Hinge Order codes

You may find that the order code used in the WoodCAM data base is not relevant to your supplier. Changing the order code in the Hinges table is very quick and easy to do. Follow the next 4steps to achieve changing the order code for your hinges:

1. Open up the WoodCAM database in WoodCAM by heading to Maintenance > Data File Maintenance or "Ctrl+M".

2. Open up the Hinges table, do this by double clicking the Hinges table name located in the left hand column.

3. Filter on the specific hinge/hinges you want to make changes to, do this by clicking on the down pointing arrow that's on the column header called Name, Clicking this will drop down the dropdown menu. This example we are using 110 Deg Knock-In Straight Sc, Make sure that this hinge is the only one selected, then click OK, this will only show the selected hinge.

4. First thing we can update is the SupplierCode this displays on the Hardware report for where the selected hardware is ordered from, We will update this to "LincolnSentry" for this example. Keep scrolling across until you locate the OrderCode column, We will update this to "1-308-71B358".
