When saving KD Max files, it is vital to ensure you have a structured and well-organised save location to maintain the integrity of your files.
A KD Max Save File consists of 2 main file types and 1 secondary file type.
The main file types are: KOC file and a MRS file
The KOC File acts as the master file, and the MRS file contains the 3D Information.
The secondary file type is: A MZ file, which is sometimes created from updates to your design and located in the original save location of your main files (KOC and MRS).
The two main files need to communicate with one another to create your 3D Drawing.
If one of these files is deleted, moved, or renamed, the file will not function correctly. This can lead to loss of work, which can be unrecoverable.
Cabinets by Computer recommends a file organisation structure such as this:
Create a Save Location folder on your Local Disc (C:).
Do not save to OneDrive or any other Cloud location.
Create Folders for each individual KD Max Drawing. This is so the KOC and MRS files do not get mixed up with other drawings in the future.
Within each folder, have separate folders for each type of output KD Max creates.
Save your Drawings (KOC and MRS files) to a folder called 'Job Files'
Save your Renders (JPG / JPEG) to a folder called 'Renders'
Save your Plan and Elevation Drawings (DWG / DXF / PDF) to a folder called 'Plans and Elevations'
AS SOON AS YOU PROCEED TO 3D from the 2D room design stage, click on 'Save as' to set your save location.
The save file should match the name of the folder, for your convenience and ease of locating files in the future.
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT THE KOC AND MRS FILES SHARE THE SAME NAME
If they do not, your file will not open correctly, and you are at risk of corrupting your save data.
Please ensure save files contain no special characters, for example - @, #, $, %, *, !
Do not move individual KOC or MRS files.
If you must move the Save Location, move the entire folder, so your files maintain their organisation.
Your save files should look something like this within the save folder:
If you want to rename a Drawing, do so using the 'Save as' option within KD Max.
This will ensure the KOC and MRS files match each other, and will open correctly.
